Can you honestly remember the subplot of the ”Fat Albert and the Cosby Kids” pilot? More so, did one ever expect George Lucas’s live-action ”Star Wars” prequel trilogy to pale in comparison to a small-screen cartoon series called ”The Clone Wars”!?

Scripts then became first and foremost, with writers blistering their fingers until they’d cracked the story. What’s happened is – well, besides technology significantly improving, pathing the way for better-looking shows – somewhere along the line the studios behind the animated series realized that just as many adults (if even only those that read comic books and live in their Mumma’s basement) watched these shows, as kids. The cartoon offerings of today are great – beautifully animated, excellent plotted, and more so, chocas with name casts. Technology and time has done these hand-inked offerings good.
Like a lot of you, I grew up with the Saturday morning cartoons – ”Top Cat”, ”Secret Squirrel”, ”Speed Buggy”, ”The Beatles”, ”Pebbles & Bam-Bam”, ”Superfriends” – and I’m sure I enjoyed them immensely (Not even a sumly cash donation can get me out of bed before 8am on a Saturday morning these days, so they must’ve been good!), but side-by-side with the cartoons of today, it’s clear which era made the inferior product. It’s not often that the saying ‘they sure don’t make them like they use to’ is said to reinforce the positives in something, but such is the case with the animated superhero series of today.
